Grid-Connected Solar PV System
In grid-connected rooftop or small SPV systems, a power conditioning unit converts DC power from SPV panels into AC power. This AC power is then fed to the grid via 33 kV/11 kV three-phase lines or 440/220 V three/single-phase lines, depending on local technical and legal requirements.
These systems operate during the day, with the generated power first utilized by captive loads. Any excess power is fed back to the grid. If generation is insufficient, the captive loads are served by drawing power from the grid.
The concept of "rooftop solar" (RTS) is defined by the PV plant's scale, not its physical location. Therefore, the RTS definition also includes small, ground-mounted solar plants.
